Premanition, or Prema, was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. When she was sixteen months, her family moved to North America. There were a lot of ups and downs, but eventually they settled in Calgary, Alberta, which is where Prema currently lives.
Prema has loved art since she was a child. She began her creative journey with writing stories when she was young, about monsters and things that go bump in the night. In her teens she fully jumped into music and taught herself how to play guitar and sing. For several years she was classically trained and was heavily involved in her school's choir groups (concert, chamber, and vocal jazz).
She entered various singing competitions during her school years and won a few of them. When she was fifteen she got into the semi finals of Calgary Junior Idol. She also won the idol competition at her high school. In university while obtaining a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a minor in computer engineering, she won the 2012 U of C Idol competition in front of her friends and family, which was a heartwarming memory she recalls fondly to this day.
Throughout her time in school she had a demanding schedule but continued to perform at local shows and events at U of C like the Lead Festival and Outrun the Stigma, which was an event for mental health awareness. Throughout her school years and still, Prema has filmed several covers on her Youtube channel as she loves to perform her favourite songs for her audience.
Prema released her debut album, which she recorded and produced herself, in September of 2019. Head Games is an EP of five songs that she wrote throughout her life about her experiences and what she has learned from others. She is a craftsperson when it comes to lyrics, inspired by her favourite artists and her grandfather who was a famous lyricist in Bangladesh. Head Games is a raw, emotional, and poignant EP that will tell you a story with nuance, grace, and honesty.
Her songs have been broadcasted on the local Calgary radio, CJSW, with her latest single, Sleep Talking out now on all streaming platforms. Sleep Talking was released in May 2020, and this is her step into the world of electropop and synthpop, which she produces and records herself at her home studio.
Premanition is an up and coming singer, producer, and writer with many stories to tell. With her big goals, serious work ethic, and bubbly personality, she will continue on the path to achieving her dreams.
